Why is globegarden not a member of KibeSuisse?
Globegarden is an independent and politically neutral provider of childcare. We contribute our expertise in quality management, employment conditions, social benefits, as well as certifications and audits to various committees and groups in municipalities and cities in ever-changing formats. As members, we engage exclusively in associations either 1) for the promotion of the quality of early education or 2) for achieving a balance between profession and family life. You can find the association memberships aimed at promoting these two goals here.

 

Does globegarden also run kindergartens?
Globegarden runs 8 private kindergartens (all-day kindergartens) in the canton of Zurich. At various other locations, after-school care is also offered.

 

Does globegarden have an early childhood education plan?
Globegarden has its own early years program: Discover the World. The early years program supports the holistic development and competencies of each child.

The early years program is for every stage of development and for every age until 6 years. It describes the early learning areas as well as the didactic and methodical approach for teachers. The early years program was developed for early years teachers, who receive annual training classes on the program. 

 

What do you earn as an early years teacher at globegarden?
At Globegarden, the average salary for a qualified teacher across all cantons in 2023 is 63,573 CHF (City of Zurich: 64,819 CHF). Teachers are classified based on age and level of responsibility. There are annual salary adjustments that are performance- and loyalty-based, as well as free professional development programs.

The minimum salary recommended by KibeSuisse and the City of Zurich for a qualified teacher was 53,600 CHF until May 2023. This means that the salary for qualified teachers at Globegarden was 20% higher.

Globegarden centers operate in various cantons, each with different regulations and legal requirements. For example, in Basel-Stadt, the salaries in all daycare centers are aligned with the public day structure. Kindergarten teachers are employed according to the public salary scales of the respective canton.

 

What is the teacher-child ratio at globegarden?
Globegarden recommends an ideal teacher-child ratio of 1:3 (depending on age for children closer to 18months also 1:4) for small children up to 18 months. For children between the ages of 2 and 4, globegarden recommends a teacher-child ratio of 1:5 or 1:6. In kindergarten for children between the ages of 4 and 6, globegarden recommends teacher-child ratio of 1:8.

In a baby group with a total of 8 children, the regulatory teacher-child ratio in the city of Zurich is 1 early years teacher and 1 intern. For children between the ages of 18 months and 4 years, for a total of 12 children 1 early years teacher and 1 intern is required. In kindergarten, one teacher is required for a total of 20 children.
